Finn, 1828, and Ann Delaney Finn, 1829
Patrick
Finn and Ann Delaney were both born in Ireland. So far nothing has been
found about Patrick or Ann Delaney's parents in Ireland.
In
June, 1863 they baptized their daughter Sarah in Ossory, Rathdowney,
Ireland, according to an Irish Catholic Parish Register.
Sarah
was likely their first child. The following is from the Nov. 21, 1952 Lima
News obituary for Anna Finn: "Miss Anna Finn,
92, one
of the earliest parishioners of St. Rose Catholic church died at 7:40 pm
Thursday in the home of a great-niece, Mrs. Thomas
Gorman,
341 W. McKibben-st. She had been in ill health for three years and
seriously ill for three weeks. Born in Rathdowney, County
Leix,
Ireland, she was the daughter of Patrick and Ann (Delaney) Finn. She came
to America at the age of 3 and had lived in Lima since.
Her
brother John, and sister, Sarah, who preceded her in death, operated the
Finn grocery store, formerly located at the southwest corner
of Main
and McKibben-sts...". Being 92 in 1952 sets her birth at around 1860. Anna
was baptized in the Catholic church in County Laois,
Ireland, June 11, 1860. The June 1, 1880 U. S. Census, Lima, Ohio, shows
17 year old Anna Finn living and working as a servant in the
home of
John W. Harrington at 108 Market Street. The June 15, 1880 Census, Lima,
Ohio, shows the household at 283 McKibben St. held
Anna
Finn, 59, John Finn, 22, machinist, Patrick Finn, 20, paper mill worker,
and Sarrah, 14. On August 4, 1917, the Lima News ran an
obituary regarding the death of 52 year old Patrick Finn, partner of his
brother John at the grocery store at the corner of Main and McKibben.
The
article lists siblings as Sarah and Anna, and another brother Jeremiah.
Sarah Finn died in 1945. Her address was listed at 341 West
McKibben. Anna was the only
surviving sibling.
